Academic capacity building – a 5-day workshop

We are excited to announce that the fifth edition of the Research Capacity Development Workshop as part of the SIDA-AAS international project, “Cultivating the Humanities and Social Sciences and Supporting Underrepresented Scholars of Asia,” was successfully conducted at Savitribai Phule Pune University from November 25th – 29th, 2024.

Workshop focus

This workshop centred on the theme of Marginality, exploring its implications within the Humanities and Social Sciences. Participants engaged with various dimensions of marginality, utilizing diverse methodologies – both qualitative and quantitative. We encouraged applications from scholars in Language Studies, Translation Studies, Philosophy, Anthropology, Social sciences and more.

Target audience

This series of workshops specifically aims to support second and third-year PhD students from state-funded and regional universities, who often have limited opportunities for research capacity enhancement. This event facilitates skill development, networking, and collaborative learning, equipping attendees for both their doctoral research and future publishing endeavors.

Rationale

In India, PhD students who are in their second or third year of the course are eager to explore different methodologies, and bring intersectionality into their research and look for publishing opportunities. However, compared to private and central universities, students from state funded public universities/ regional universities often get only scant opportunities to enhance their research capacities.

This workshop gave preference to students coming from such universities and offering them the opportunity to learn and exchange ideas, interact and create with other academicians and will build their research capacities not only for their PhD also in future to publish their research.
