LUMS completes Pilot Writing and Critical Thinking Workshop for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Cohort Members

Date:               1-9 November, 2025 (online and onsite)
Venue:            HEC Training Center, Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan

The Academic Writing and Critical Thinking Workshop, held under the LUMS–SIDA–AAS initiative, concluded successfully following a series of online and in-person sessions from November 1st to 9th. The programme brought together members of the KP Cohort for an intensive exploration of critical thinking practices, argument development, and academic writing techniques.

Throughout the workshop, participants were highly engaged and expressed strong enthusiasm for the learning experience. Many remarked that the sessions were exceptionally relevant to their ongoing research and provided practical tools they could immediately apply to strengthen their scholarly work. The blend of virtual instruction and in-person discussions in Peshawar created a dynamic environment for peer learning, reflection, and mentorship.

The workshop was led by Huda Imtiaz and Aneeqa Wattoo, instructors at LUMS with extensive experience in academic writing pedagogy and researcher development. Drawing on their backgrounds in interdisciplinary scholarship and higher-education instruction, both facilitators guided participants through practical frameworks for critical thinking, argumentation, and scholarly communication. Their interactive teaching approach, combined with their deep understanding of research practices in the social sciences and humanities, greatly enriched the workshop experience and contributed to the highly positive feedback from participants.

LUMS team members Dr. Furrukh Khan (Hub Lead) and Tajwar Awan (CHSS Project Manager) also joined the sessions and engaged with participants from across cohorts. They discussed ongoing research interests, explored opportunities for collaboration, and reflected on ways participants could enhance the impact and visibility of their scholarly work.

The LUMS–SIDA–AAS team extends its appreciation to all facilitators and participants for their active participation and commitment to advancing high-quality, impactful research.
